Carbonfooter is a tool that checks the CO2 emissions of a webpage and if a website runs on green energy. Simply type in a URL and Carbonfooter shows you the results.

The API is builth on top of co2.js with some custom formulas and a check where the server is located to make the results local.

For the green hosting part it works by checking the website against the Green Web Foundation database. If the host is listed as using green energy, Carbonfooter shows a green result. If not, it shows a warning.

I co-created Carbonfooter. It is one of the tools I use to measure and prove that the websites I build are actually sustainable — not just claiming to be.
