WordPress is the most popular content management system (CMS) in the world. It powers more than 40% of all websites. It started as a blogging tool, but grew into a platform for building any type of website.

What makes WordPress popular is its simplicity. You install it, pick a theme, add content, and your site is online. Plugins let you add features without writing code.

I built websites with WordPress for most of my career. It is reliable, well-known, and clients trust it. I still use it for projects where it fits.

The downsides: because WordPress stores data in a flexible but unstructured way (see: post meta), it can become slow and messy as a site grows. That is one of the reasons I started moving to Payload CMS for more complex projects.
